Earlier, It was reported that Tesla will send a team from the United States to India by late April to study potential sites, focusing on states known for their automotive hubs, such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu.
The report about Tesla’s plan to set up a plant in India follows the Centre’s decision to cut import taxes on some EVs for companies that pledge at least $500 million (Rs 4,150 crore) in investment and a manufacturing plant within three years.
The development also comes just days after the Centre held its first set of consultation meetings with automobile industry players, including Tesla representatives, to evolve guidelines to operationalise the new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy released last month.
The guidelines are expected to provide more clarity on investments in EV manufacturing in the country, which is at a nascent stage in the country.
