Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer Ather Energy today announced its new mega-factory spread across 123,000 square feet at Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
The new mega-factory has a capacity to produce over 110,000 and 120,000 battery packs annually. Almost 90% of its production is localized in India, the statement said.
With this massive production capacity, it will be able to meet the demand it receives across the country. "Ather Energy has started delivering in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad and more deliveries planned in a phased manner across 21 other cities by Q1," the press statement said.
Meanwhile, Ather Energy is also planning to invest Rs 635 crore ($87 million) in the next five years to meet the potential growth rate.
The new factory is back supported by the Tamil Nadu government under its EV policy. Apart from the electric vehicle manufacturing, the facility will also focus on lithium-ion battery manufacturing, it said.
"As a part of this initiative, more than 4000 employees will be trained in requisite skills in the EV sector over the next 5 years"
"The manufacturing facility is built on Industry 4.0 principles and has one of the most advanced solutions that integrates technology, human assets, existing systems, and processes across the entire manufacturing network," the statement added.
Ather Energy currently has its presence in 25 cities, including Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Coimbatore, Kolkata, Calicut, Ahmedabad, Mysore, Hubli, Jaipur, Indore, Panaji, Bhubaneshwar, Nasik, Surat, Chandigarh, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Nagpur, Noida, Lucknow, and Siliguri. It aims to expand its presence in other cities.
Founded in 2013 by two IITians Swapnil Jain and Tarun Mehta. Ather Energy is known for its powerful electric scooters such as Ather 450X and Ather 450Plus, which built India’s first intelligent electric scooter.

Ather Energy had reported Rs 48.8 crore revenue from its sales in FY-20, saw a 4x growth compared to the previous financial year.
