UNIREC producing clothing made from recycled PET bottles raises $190K led by BeyondSeed

UNIREC, a sustainable brand producing clothing made from recycled PET bottles, recently raised seed funding of $190,000 USD (approximately Rs 1.5 Crore) from BeyondSeed, a prominent Singapore-based seed fund.

The purpose of the funding

According to the startup, the raised capital would be utilized for market expansion and the enhancement of research and development in creating innovative, sustainable fabrics. The strategic financial boost is set to significantly impact the sustainable fashion market, where UNIREC has already made notable strides.

UNIREC's achievements 

In the past 18 months, UNIREC has produced 40,000 garments, selling over 25,000 of these, effectively recycling 300,000 PET bottles. This effort has led to a reduction of over 100 tonnes of carbon emissions and the recycling of 6000 kilograms of plastic.

Kapil Bhatia, CEO and Founder of UNIREC, stated, “Our immediate goal, fuelled by this funding round, is to manufacture and sell 25,000 garments every month.” He said the brand is currently focused on scaling rapidly, both online and offline market.

UNIREC's product offerings

UNIREC's product range is diverse, including t-shirts, formal jackets, sleeveless jackets, trousers, and shirts. Each garment represents the recycling of an average of 10 plastic bottles.

The brand, founded in 2021 by Kapil Bhatia, sells its products on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, aiming for zero impact on the climate and zero defects in its products.
